URKUND – maintaining quality in education
URKUND is the leading system for detecting and deterring plagiarism in schools today both in Sweden and in other countries. URKUND’s system is greatly appreciated by teachers as, because their students learn to surf the internet at an early age and learn a lot from doing so, it can be difficult and time consuming for teachers to check submitted essays for plagiarism manually. URKUND frees up valuable time that can then be spent on teaching and other tasks instead.
Each teacher receives a personal e-mail address ending with analysis.urkund.com. Students then submit their work as attached files to this address. When it reaches the teacher, it has already been checked against URKUND’s three source areas: the internet, published material and our archive of previously submitted student documents. URKUND then presents with the information the teacher requires to determine whether or not the text contains plagiarism. Since everything that passes through the URKUND system is a future source, students cannot borrow a text from a friend or relative at the same school or any school that uses URKUND. This creates a strong preventive effect since students know that every submitted document is checked.
With URKUND, there is also a natural opportunity to discuss plagiarism, citation techniques, source review and ethics which is valuable knowledge for future studies. With URKUND the school rapidly takes an effective approach to the problem of plagiarism and academic dishonesty.

A walk-through of URKUND and the problems of plagiarism is a great way to start using the system. URKUND’s training increases awareness of plagiarism and gives good knowledge of the system and its functions. In order to accommodate our clients’ different needs, we offer two forms of training.
We come to you and teach your faculty within your own learning environment. It is a nice way of learning about URKUND in detail and to get answers to the questions that may arise. It is also an excellent opportunity to get a plagiarism discussion started!
The training takes approximately 2 hours. The number of participants is optional but between 15 and 100 people is a number well suited to the training format. All that is needed is an Internet connected PC, a PC-projector and a whiteboard.
URKUND’s popular web training is a fast and efficient way to learn more about our system. We hold a live session via the web and on the telephone with a focus on the different aspects of URKUND’s system.
The session lasts 60 min (approx.) and is designed for a group of between 8 and 10 people. The participants connect to a shared conference platform and dial in on a telephone number. All that is required is a broadband connection to the Internet and telephone capabilities, either individual or via a conference model.
With URKUND statistical and management tools URSA, you get an unbeatable view of the use and full account management. URSA is available in two versions: the standard version URSA Minor and the more advanced version URSA Major.
This is a lecture with a run-through of what constitutes plagiarism and how texts can be handled to avoid this. Based on the URKUND Plagiarism manual, we also provide tips and advice about how pupils and students can plan the writing process in order to get it done in time and to achieve the desired result.
Recommended for pupils and students in primary and secondary schools, universities and colleges. Only available in English or Swedish.
URKUND’s Advanced Training Pack for teachers and head teachers is on the theme “Preventing plagiarism through know-how, procedures and management”. This is based on URKUND’s 4-stage model. It provides the school with specific tools for dealing with plagiarism. Everything is customised to the organisation’s needs and wishes. Only available in English and Swedish.
Several LMS (Learning Management Systems) have chosen to integrate URKUND into their platforms; among these are Moodle, Pingpong and Blackboard. This makes it possible for the teacher to work with URKUND within the LMS-environment they use in their daily work.
In order to establish communication between the various systems and URKUND, we have developed a web service. The web service is available to any LMS-provider with which our clients wish to interface. Please contact us for more information concerning this.
